WORDS TO LIFT BY
After spending 30+ years of my life entrenched in the world of fitness helping people define and reach their goals, I decided that I wanted to spend the bulk of my time helping children overcome the many challenges that they are faced with. It quickly led to a line of children’s empowerment books – Words To Lift By. Giants Take Baby Steps is the second book in this series.
The elders of the village declared war on the weather. But the more they fought, the more the weather fought back.

Then, a group of young people in the village thought there must be a better way. They closed their eyes and breathed deeply as they counted to five and meditated by imagining their thoughts coming true. They discovered that once they were able to master their thoughts, they were able to master the weather.

"Sam, are you listening? You need to try and be more like your sister. She is ready to complete this journey tomorrow." Sam sighed and looked out of the window again. Sally was two years older than him and tried her best at everything.

“Nonsense," grunted Dad, "he's still a baby. You can't rush giant training." “As I always say …” Dad began, but Sam interrupted him. “Yeah, yeah, I know … even Giants take baby steps.” But Sam didn't want to go slow. He was fed up with being the baby of the family. He wanted to be a giant right now. And he had a plan.

"You'll do great, honey. And if you find yourself in trouble, just remember to slow down, take deep breaths and focus on what you're doing," smiled Mom.

"You have learned to master yourselves. But be warned," the Principal continued, "not all of you will succeed. And you may not all return."

Sam expected Sally to jump across the crevasses. But she didn't. Instead, Sally stood still and closed her eyes. She breathed deeply and focused all her mind on the crevasse. To Sam's astonishment, it closed up again, allowing her to continue.

She paused for a few minutes and looked around at the breathtaking view, as if she was enjoying just being in the moment.

"No need to complete these silly challenges to get Tools of the Mind," Sam thought - he had the real thing. "I'll find the key in no time," he thought, "and then I'll be a real Weather Giant."

"I have what you seek," said the white-bearded old man who had opened the door. He uncurled his wizened fist to reveal an old, rusty key. "But I require payment." Reluctantly, Sam handed over the bow.

"This key will give you what you have earned."

Soon he was the size of a Weather Giant but without the strength. Sam was surprised and helpless. "My knife!" Sam thought. He realized with despair that he didn't have it anymore.

"I thought if I could take a giant step to find the key, I'd get what I wanted faster. I didn't want to be the baby anymore. I really wanted to be a giant, like Dad, and like you." Sally shook her head. "Little bro, always so impatient. Remember what Dad said, 'Giants take Baby Steps!"
